Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerd
....but I gotta say. I, too, would have been tempted to have the lightsaber duel at my wedding, had I thought of it.

Okay, it's a pretty bad saber duel; you only really need to watch the first twenty seconds or so. And there is no clear victory, so I'll never know whether the Bride Side or the Groom Side is stronger. But, you know, amateurs. And tuxedos. I'll forgive.

Ganked from [info]boutell and [info]kjc007.

Oh, that was some horrible fighting. But it's given us a great idea for our 2nd wedding. :D

That fight choreography was awful, but they looked like they were having so much fun. I kept waiting for the rest of the wedding party to melee in.

The initial choreography is definitely bad, but I wonder if they're just imitating the movie? Some of the later moves seem taken right out of the scene, though perhaps not in the correct order.

Either way, I'd gladly do that as part of a wedding, but I'd need to get the bride better trained or else it would just be a whuppin'!

I am the bride in question, and yeah, the initial bit is taken (more or less) from the movie. We actually worked on choreographing it for a few weeks, but once we were there in the spotlight, most of it flew out of my head and I pretty much went freestyle. :-}

Most likely you already saw this: Lightsaber Duel. Quite good for amateurs.

I've linked to it in the past as an example of what Lucasfilm should have been.

Oh, I wasn't saying that as if you should know! Just that I thoroughly agree with your assessment of its coolness.

Ooh, I like how you can see that they've both aged, and their technique has improved (at least to my unskilled eye).

[info]katie_can_draw and [info]uterdic had a very well staged lightsaber duel at their wedding, if memory serves.

"The Bride Side or the Groom Side" made me imagine it as the whole wedding party getting in on it (as in the seating arrangement often being organised into Bride Side and Groom Side). The video title "First Lightsaber Duel" also led me to believe there would be more, since, with first dance, afterwards everyone else dances too.

It is quite funny as-is, but it would be totally awesome to have a whole-wedding melee follow it. That would truly show whether the Bride Side or the Groom Side is stronger.

Recently, a couple of geeky friends of mine were wed. Someone noticed that the reception site contained a gazebo. So, near the end of the reception, the wedding photographers (also geeks) rounded up a batch of us to attack the gazebo with random cutlery from the tables while they took pictures. The bride and groom did not know about this. I'm waiting for them to get the proofs to look over. :)

I am the bride :)

*grin* First dance, first fight, dontcha know! I was simply happy that I could move at all in my gown. A trained duelist I am not, but it was a total blast.

The follow-up to the duel is that I said immediately afterward that I hoped it would be the worst fight we would ever have. :)

I was at this wedding! It was perfect; the first dance, to a slow, instrumental "Waltzing Mathilda," was appropriately tearjerking, and then, the DJ announced, "And now, the bride and groom with have their first DUEL as a couple!"

Pretty awesome. They're wonderful folks.
