Your Daily Dose Of Creepy Like I said... Creepy. (The video's goosebumptacular.)

It looks to me like a plant...someone playing with storytelling and vid. I must admit it is creepy and cool..but of little veracity. A little digging produced this: mysonpeter.com = [ 216.131.123.170 ] Registrant: Richard Gryebet Richard Gryebet 1140 Howard St. Glendale Ca 91207 US Email: RoscoeBar@Juno.com AND from googled Authentic? nope... The WHOIS database says the site is registered to Richard Gryebet. This is a hoax, it's obvious. A search on the guy's name only led to this page - no memorials, news articles...if this were a real tragedy, some sort of in memoriam listing would show, death notices, etc. Also, most hairdryers have a fuse to prevent this sort of thing...Not to mention that construction codes require electrical outlets with internal circut breakers to prevent this sort of thing too. If you click on the e-mail me at mysonpeter.com you're invited to write richard@... Creepysites is a collection of creepy sites including "mysonpeter.com". Creepysites is administered by someone who works for yarnbird.com, who "is a creative production company specializing in interactive storytelling. A new cutting-edge style of long form entertainment, this non-linear method of storytelling allows YarnBird to intertwine multiple media -- including text, photos, audio, video, graphics, website links and email -- to spin original tales." creepysites has cool sites, but probably to be enjoyed in the same vein as "Blair Witch".
Also, from the paranormal aspect, the site's a hoax. That tape's been compared to other tapes of paranormal activity that weren't faked (as far as anyone knows) and that a logical explination wasn't found for. My son Peter? Failed, with a great big F.
So.. scary? Yep, that site's scary as all blazes. Real? Nope.
Circuit breakers and fuses don't save you from killing yourself with a bathtub+appliance. Ground Fault Circuit Interrruptors have at least a chance in hell, and would certainly prevent getting dead from reaching in to save the kid, but the kid would most likely still be dead even with a GFCI-protected outlet.
Add to that the fact that most building codes have a gradfather clause for this sort of thing that says "if it was okay when you put it in, you only have to bring it up to date when you change major sections", it's entirely possible for someone to be living in a place without GFCIs.
Electricity and bathrooms are a very bad combination. That's why shaving sockets often come with a 1:1 insulating transformer (which means you don't get shocked from touching any of the electricity bearing parts, although you can still get a shock from touching *two* parts simultaneously). Building codes local to me, which is not US, spec no sockets closer to the wet areas (bathtub, shower cell) than 1 meter 80 centimeters (6 feet).
But yes, this is obviously a hoax.
Hmm.. I doubt its legitimacy simply because of the clarity in the video and lack of other documentation. Surely he has an idea of the use of EVPs and such..
It'd be interesting to investigate, though..

Maybe this guy should contact Ghost Hunters - if nothing else, he'd get on television, his web site would get more hits, and maybe people would clicky his ads and he'd make some cash ;-)
Pretty freaky if it is legit.
Thanks. After my morning dose of ghost story, fake or not this site simply creeped me right the hell out. But then again, I was primed for being creeped out. :)

I read both but found yours creepier, if only because I KNOW you.
In the past half decade there's been a couple of creepy moments in the studio--the sound of the metal lockers slamming shut, for example--that I've always managed to shake off as an overactive imagination of someone who works alone.
But after that story, I'm going to be less inclined to think I'm a lonely nut with an overactive imagination the next time something creeps me out at work.
I've half a mind to call the Ghost Hunters show and have them stay with me one night.

ooooh. um...thanks! (runs screaming like a little girl)
Before I continue with the website- This is the time of year for "Jump in your face and make you out of your chair. " flashes.
Is this one of those?
No, but I can't say I blame you. I hate those.
That was my big fear too. Frankly, I was all proud of myself being bored with it, like I am not going to be scared. But I have to admit, I read the little blogs, got all the way up to the one named "My Closet" and couldn't open it. You couldn't pay me to watch the video alone now, no matter how unrealistic or simplistic the damned site is.
I know I know . .. no one would put up ad sites on the memorial to his dead kid. But freakin' creepy--there are sure a lot of pictures of a child on that site, and some mom is sure not worried about exploitation . . .
Ugh, I hate those. My friend sent me one of those at 3am knowing that I was alone in my apartment. It scared the hell out of me.

There's a "time of year" for that? When is it??
That really did give me goosebumps. From the commenters above I gather that it's a hoax, but it's neato anyway.:-)
yarnbird did "I can still tell your wife, Bill" and "my son peter" two viral web sites. Both sites are pretty cool, but apparently internet surfers don't have the kind of attention span that Yarnbird required. If they had only invented "Badger, badger, badger". . . I think http://ichatnaked.com/ is the only thing yarnbird has running anymore (apparently the business changed their name from yarnbird to IchatNaked Internet, Inc., when they got out of the viral business).
what is a viral web site?
you, my friend need to bookmark http://www.urbandictionary.com1. viral Short for 'viral marketing'. An online marketing strategy that encourages people to pass on a marketing message. Amusing and low-budget, a good Internet viral campaign (e.g. "Jerry Tate: Office Linebacker") will get surfers forwarding the ad to all of their friends to others, giving the company great word of mouth. "FWD: Check out this hilarious viral from Hyundai

duly market! thank you !
Also the email links to richard at creepysites dot com. That and the advertising doesn't sound like a father asking the world for help with his pain. The blur effect is just an image moving to fast to capture. I think you might be able to do that with a camcorder and no additional software.
That and the advertising doesn't sound like a father asking the world for help with his pain. There's also the fact that he signs his guestbook replies "creepmaster."
I dunno, it seems REALLY creepy to take pictures of a living child and make up a story about his tragic death.
The kid in the video looks much older than his son supposedly was when he died.
Little kids have a paticular way of walking, while the ghost in this video is more sauntering then anything.
Cool site though, the video was the only thing that didn't creep me out.

I dunno. It's kinda bland. Doesn't creep me out, and I've been unable to sleep from just watching a thirty-seconds TV trailer for Rosemary's Baby.

I say hoax because of this:
On March 15, 1992 my wife Janice was blow drying her hair while Peter was taking a bath. Janice accidentally dropped her hair dryer into the bathtub and I lost both my son and my wife at the same time when she reached in to save him.
What kind of parent blow dries their hair next to their kid in the bathtub? Seriously?

Oh yeah, and he takes a picture of the bathtub this allegedly happened in? "Oh, I'm so heartbroken! Boohoo-wait! I'll take a pic of the tub they died in and slap it up online! Brillant!"
The hell?
Yeah, and puts in advertisements on the page...I mean really.
Plus I'm a mythbusters-aholic and as soon as I read how the son and wife allegedly died, I knew it wasn't real.
This is true...I forgot about the GFCI thing...my bad.

While I agree that this is faked, I have very vivid memories of my mother blow drying her hair near the bathtub where I bathed as a very young child.
It's just something some people don't think about.

Wow. Even if that is a faked video, it's quite well done, and really creepy.
Thanks for sharing, a dose of creepy is good.

Googling for the Mythbusters result you're talking about, I get references to the fact that they actually *confirmed* that it was possible to die from getting a hairdryer thrown into your bathtub. At least in the case of a non-GFCI protected outlet. Keep in mind that the hoax site alleges that this took place in 1988, when GFCIs were by no means universal.
GFCIs became mandatory in bathrooms in 1975 in the National Electrical Code, so the house would have to have been a mere 13 years old in order to not legally be required to have them.
(Whoops. Something weird just happened)
I'm so glad I read your the comments debunking the site before I went and looked at it... I'm the world's biggest wuss and I would've shat myself for sure on seeing that video.
