The problems are greater (in the theoretical sense) with males. The theory is the molly produces three types of eggs. Donkey, horse, and wrong (neither one nor the other).

As I said, the odds of a viable sperm being the one to get in are much worse than that of a viable egg being fertilised (if the egg is fertile, and she gets covered, she is likely to concieve, because the horse sperm will work, either a mule, or a horse will result).

To date the only proven (and suspected) results of a fertile mule have all been horses.

In theory the same possibility (of a fertile egg) being produced from a zerbra/horse cross. Since they are so rare, and the probable infertility is so high, no one tries to breed them.

In theory a mule/mule cross is as possible as a mule/horse cross. Since no one has ever tried it (see above) no one knows.

Apart from the insight it might throw on the biology of the animals, there's no point in trying.
