Unless you're seriously thinking that most of your personality comes from penis envy and sublimated sexual urges, then Freud is a breakthrough but most of his topics aren't taken seriously any more. We also have interpreted human emotions as caused by the devil in the past, which isn't really taken seriously either.

It's dated. If you have to look at it "in the context of history," then that makes it precisely what I said it was: An interesting film that's not particularly watchable on its own merits.
