I once destroyed a small sci-fi convention because I jokingly said that "Of course the Enterprise D could take on a Star Destroyer."
I kid you not, there were fist-fights.
All because I had started a conversation with "Yeah, I know how to make any gathering of geeks break out into pure hatred and malice, but I don't want to do that here."
They asked. They begged. They pleaded and scoffed.
So I did it.
I was not invited back.
Edited at 2014-04-08 02:41 pm (UTC) (In my soul there's a crow-headed girl who wishes she'd been able to sit up somewhere high with a video camera and a bowl of popcorn for that. This is also the part of my soul that thinks shooting Roman candles at trashbags full of propane is HI-larious, so, y'know, mileage and variance and all.
All of that to say both "Nicely done, sir," and "~wince~ Wow. Dang.") I would kill to have been a fly on the wall. Well, Starfleet personnel would obviously transport over and sort out the opposition into lumpy heaps with hand-to-hand combat, and I'm pretty sure the transporters could also suck the fuel out of the enemy's tanks.... ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/766330/186234) | | From: | xuenay |

They'd have to get the Star Destroyer's shields down first. It is canon that this can be accomplished with a single shot. ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/766330/186234) | | From: | xuenay |

If you're thinking about the Executor, it had been softened first. "In the present literature there are few quantitative indications of the Executor's precise shield strength. We know that a deliberate and concentrated bombardment by somewhere between half a dozen and two dozen Mon Calamari cruisers caused shield failure within a matter of minutes. Unfortunately we can't quantify the shield capacity directly because we don't yet know the maximum output of Mon Calamari warships' guns. To total yield of Ackbar's barrage was probably the equivalent of a continual bombardment by a comparable number of Imperial star destroyers over the same time period." (Star Wars Technical Commentaries.) Starfleet shields can handle matter-antimatter explosions. Star Destroyers face fusion at worst...
...I can't keep this up, I'm starting to giggle at the situation here. ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/766330/186234) | | From: | xuenay |

And I haven't even started linking to the detailed calculations of the firepower of Star Wars vs. Star Trek vessels, yet. ;-) Of course, we haven't so much as touched upon the issue of which outfit makes the more inept use of resources at hand. ("Why don't we jettison the starboard engine nacelle, which as we all know is stuffed with antimatter, at Warp 9, while it's pointing at the Borg cube? Surely we can get home on one." "Because the power source that provides our civilization with all this free antimatter is dramatic tension." "Apparently dithering works just as well, sir.") |
