Less Vitriol, More Empathy: A Word To Complaining Fans

| | In games, sometimes you can't even be sure whether your vision is glorious or not. Recently I knocked together a prototype of a game based on the car-passenger-foot-laser-game*, on the grounds that a thing that a lot of people do habitually probably makes for a compelling absorbing game. Turns out it didn't.
* this is a thing wherein, when you are the passenger in a car, you have imaginary lasers or saw blades or something that you turn on and off by having your foot on that side down or up. Your goal is generally either to hit all the lamp-posts / people / passing cars, or to not hit them, or hit one group and not another. People who do this, of which there are many, are generally surprised to learn that they are not alone. I've come to realize that even your failures can be valuable because they can then point you in the right direction that you need to go. It's nice when you get it right the first time, but I'm no longer surprised when that doesn't happen. |
