Pretty much where I'm coming from, yes. We can assume that Joan didn't sleep with every guy who bought her a drink because she felt she owed them for the drink.

Yeah.

I mean, with the culture back then being what it was, I'm sure there were guys who did think that was the deal. (I mean, there are guys *now* who think that's the deal. Ugh.)

But I don't think that was always the case, and even if it was...that would have been something Joan signed up for then, in that context. She didn't sign on for that sort of thing at work. I think that makes a difference too.
