I wouldn't have minded that so much if anything happened to have made the previous 3 books matter. Twilight was a sort of well told story. Girl meets boy, they have relationship troubles, she's put in danger, he saves her, the end. Not new territory, but what is? It was catchy and sort of well told. It was a decent pop song in book form.

The rest of the books resulted in literally nothing happening. Every time anyone was in any danger nobody got hurt. Did anyone die in those books but monstrous bad guys? One old Native American man? One moderately nice vampire died, but he had to turn evil again to do it. I mean, i'm a fan of vampire stories where the vampires live (they are immortal, after all, and killing them off like humans sort of cheapens that) but come on! It's a super mega happy ending. Everyone is still paired up and together and even Billy get a girl and blech. the 100% lack of anything negative happening angers me. There are no consequences for anyone's actions. The whole story might as well not have happened.
