The Usual Christmas Post, Part 2: So What’s Your Favorite Gift?
Because I want to know: What’s the best thing you got for Christmas this year?
My answer is anticipatory, since my Mom went in with me so we could afford to get a new, king-sized bed. But said bed will not arrive until next Friday. So for right now I’ll say it’s the 14″ crash cymbal my Dad got me, since I wasn’t anticipating any cymbal on a year that’s very lean for everybody, and now I’ll be able to play drums in more style. (Though I also did get a universal remote that Gini spent a lot of time researching, which should be awesome.)
Merry, merry Christmas! So what made you happiest under the tree this holidays?

My sweetie got me a silver and amethyst bracelet, and bluetooth headphones for my iPhone. Like you, though, my best present is anticipatory...my granddaughter made something for me but it won't be here until later today. So what was it? Inquiring minds want to know! ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/62283567/6957709) | | From: | kmg_365 |

I have only finished celebration 1 of 5 so far, so my answer may change. But at the moment it is my Nikon macro lens. Nice. How did they split it over twelve days? the very best thing of all i wont get to see till july, but my ex gave me the present yesterday and i cried. my daughter recorded the heartbeat of her baby at her last doctor visit and she sent the recording to him so he could surprise me yesterday morning. that was the best thing of all. :D
but the other best thing (yes, i have two) we wont get till febuary.
we have a tenative closing date on a house. and it IS under a tree...the lemon tree growing in the backyard!! *laughs*

Merry Christmas!
We got ourselves an early Christmas present of a fairly nice treadmill. We'd been talking for a long time about getting one (due to now living in a snow-covered wasteland and going to the gym involves too much preparation for either of us to consistently use a membership), and they were on pretty deep discount the weekend after Black Friday, so we went for it. Unfortunately I had to determine the quality of Nordic Track's customer service before I'd completely assembled the thing; fortunately their customer service is awesome. Having a treadmill in the basement really does help. So go you! Hopefully you can put the TV near it, as I do, to take your mind off the shooting pains in your legs. ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/27577099/446406) | | From: | zoethe |

Well, sweetheart, spending Christmas with you is the best gift of all.
But I am weirdly delighted with the Han Solo in Carbonite ice cube tray! Thank you!!!
Edited at 2011-12-25 05:40 pm (UTC) Well, I got a box of chocolates and some cash, so it's a 50/50 choice... so, the cash, even though I am basically going to stick it in my bank account to avoid debt a bit more, so it's not very exciting! My boy and I are doing New Years presents due to postage fail on both sides, so I have something to look forward to. And a lady at a client company got me a little bath stuff gift set thing, which I don't think I'll use (I don't have a bath!), but I very much appreciated the gesture, as I'd been helping her a lot with her personal computer issues rather than work related ones, which I'd have done anyway without any more than a "thanks for your help", but it was very touching and I feel appreciated :) My parents gave myself and Julie a contribution towards taking a holiday in March when her PhD is over. You would not believe how much we're looking forward to that. Nice. Where are you thinking about going? I hear Cleveland's lovely in March. My sister got me a little battery powered Dalek that rolls around on my desk until it hits a wall and proclaims, "EXTERMINATE." My sister knows me too well. I am the proud new owner of a Kindle Fire. Because I no longer possess a working laptop, and putting me on a fourteen-hour international flight with only a paperback or two is probably a good way to ensure they have to turn that plane around somewhere over the water in hour nine or so. Excellent! I got my Mom one for Christmas, too, which seems to have gone over well.
I'm also the same way. I bring three books on a five-hour flight, I'm done with two of them and bored with the third. My husband gave me a red ukelele for Christmas, complete with better strings and a tuner. This is so special to me because my beloved grandpa (who died when I was 6) used to play a red ukelele at their summer camp that we visited every year and I have HUGELY fond memories of that. So he got me one, and even made sure it was the right color and everything. My girlfriend crocheted me a huge, tetris-themed blanket and a handle of Kraken Black spiced rum. I misread this at first, and it made me realize I need to crochet a throw of the TARDIS. NEED TO. Thanks. My favorite gift is either the cordless power drill or the 10 inch chef's knife. I love everything I got, but those were the ones I was most excited about. :) I got Gini a 10" bread knife. She loved it. So it's a slashy Christmas! And you're a practical girl. My fiancé bought me a Lennox Beauty and the Beast cake topper for our wedding in May! Pictures, I say! Pictures! After many years of asking and not receiving; someone has finally gotten me caffeinated soap. There are other presents I may enjoy more, but none I have anticipated longer, so it was the most exciting at the moment of unwrapping. ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/19583817/961489) | | From: | atreic |

I read that as caffinated soup, which was also a weird thought I didnt get anything good this year. But last year i got an xbox360, which i used almost constantly this year for games & movies. That was a great gift. My Mom got one this year, and I've been showing her all the things it can do. My best present is next week; tomorrow i make the drive from Iowa to south eastern Pennsylvania with four of my children to see my oldest daughter and her family. The thing that makes this trip special is that I get to see my new granddaughter that was born October 21, the day before my birthday. My daughter's fifth child! And to make the trip even more awesome my sweetie booked us a hotel with an indoor pool so that the kids and I would have a really awesome vacation. He's staying home as part of his Xmas present, he gets the house to himself to play his bass and guitar as much as he wants. (one of my kids has a major aversion to music and will be spending the week with his dad, making our trip to PA smoother as well) Nice! I'm sure you won't see this for a while, but congrats and I hope it's all wonderful! I can't have kids but my boyfriend has a son and this is the first Christmas we have spent with him together. I know he isn't mine but it is kind of like my first Christmas having a kid of my own and it was awesome. it's not the same when they grow up, though. they're all, "can you just give me money this year, so i can get what i want?" "what do you want? i'll get it for you." "mother!" :eye roll: I don't usually get much that surprises me -- gift cards to use toward things I have wanted (this year: rice cooker, griddle, winter nightgown), a few romantic things from George that I really don't know how to feel about...long story behind that so never mind. Tasty and fun surprises from my bbs sekrit santa.
This year, honestly, the things I want, I have. So the thing I'm most excited about is also anticipatory -- the usual gift of cash from my father is going toward a new tattoo. :) Jigsaw foam blocking mats and a complete set of Barbara Walker. The knitters will know. Oooh. We will indeed. I am now jealous. well, i accidentally got a new phone yesterday. i say accidentally because the one i had died on me three or four times in the short distance the bus takes from the apartment to downtown, then twice again on the way out to the mall. so preston told me to get off at the at&t store and see what i could find. he called his mother, and she's going to send us the money back. so, yay!
my mom told me thomas had a great christmas. he got a 42" flat screen tv (she helped pay half of it), a new computer, and a blu-ray player. i texted and said, "i heard you had a great christmas!" and he wrote back, "yup!" LOL
like i told gini, our dinner is cooking, and i'm cleaning right now (well not this instant LOL). friends and their newborn are coming over later, and i'll be baking two pies. fun!
the best thing, though? peace, quiet, and preston! :) Yay for new phones! Excellent! You can keep texting me and whatnot! ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/110456017/120052) | | From: | cislyn |

</p> Froggy hat! :D My bad ass ice cream machine! Rock on! Who doesn't love ice cream? Well, Gini, but that's only because it makes her sick.
This year was rough financially, but with leftover money from my first story sale, I bought myself the complete Calvin and Hobbes. And as a super early xmas present, my mom got me a Kindle Touch, which I love beyond reason. That Calvin and Hobbes collection is awesome. I reread the series this year. Still genius. And yay! My incredibly beautiful, smart and wonderful daughter. Although to be technically accurate, we'll have to move the mass of gifts she has from under the tree first before putting the baby under there. |
