It's not just that the bees get angry in the rain, if I remember correctly, they're prone to some sort of fungal infection that can be a hive killer if inside that hive gets damp. It sounds like you guys handled it well with the umbrella, but it's good you didn't take out he frames, and in the future waiting might be the lesser evil. Cody kept having problems in that the number of days he could tend the hive when it was not raining, and he had the time with a full time job and the custody case overlapped too infrequently and his bees went feral.

Yeah, but we didn't have a choice. Sadly, we had to ensure the queen was at least loose, because otherwise we have to requeen fast.

I wasn't thrilled, but it was the best of a bunch of potentially terrible options.

the bees definitely get pissed of, they cant fly when it's raining, the drops of water are like cars falling from the sky if a big drop of water hits them they can get killed. so they are in the hive for a long time sometimes days, and after the rain is over, they are definitely in a bad mood, hungry, stuck in the hive when all their instincts tell them to go forage.

ps this post needs moar pictures of bees, and less of beekeepers

I don't disagree, but there were no bees. It was cold and they barely came out. Also see: video I tried to take.

That's why we went when it was only misting and protected the hive with an umbrella. I feel sorry for my poor bees! But at least we are feeding them still so they aren't hungry.
