At minimum, I don't feel like I should be hearing any more nonsense about Obama being made of less than high-grade steel. As far as I've been able to parse, what he signed off on was invading a sovereign nation known to possess nuclear weapons in order to go get the guy. Holy fuck, dude.

He told them, "Do not get in our way." I think in this circumstance, even China would know to back the fuck off.

I gotta say, it's nice to know my leader has big brass ones when it counts.

He actually told them that before we were there? Because I thought, well, kinda the point is that whatever we tell Pakistan, bin Laden hears ten seconds later, tops.

Pakistan had been told a long while ago that basically, "we will go after OBL wherever he is, and if he's in your territory so be it."

Right, that was what he ve-e-ery carefully and specifically said in his address. As opposed to anything that denotes that we asked permission from or provided notification to Pakistan regarding this specific operation.

I'm not criticizing. If you ask me, it's pretty rock 'n roll.

given what's been coming out about the location and visibility of the compound, it's hard not to conclude that Pakistan built it for him.

Yeah. Shocker. I'm not saying they didn't have a neat and tidy little invasion coming, just that it takes some balls to completely blow off the diplomatic pseudoreality of our "ally" status with Pakistan and go for it. (And some moxie to do so whilst apparently causing only the merest flutter in said diplomatic pseudoreality.)

He told them, "Do not get in our way."

He did? The news story I heard on the way in this morning mentioned that we didn't tell Pakistan we were doing it. Which makes sense when you consider he was hanging out in a building where Pakistan reportedly trained its military officers.

He didn't tell them in advance, but he's been long on the record that we're going to go wherever he is. Considering that Pakistan knew where Osama was, and we knew that they knew, that was aimed squarely at them.

Yeah, he was clear about that. It's the specific operation that I'm speaking in context of. Which is all good by me, for the record.

Such a delicate dance of diplomacy with Pakistan. So many levels of people going "nice doggy", so many levels of people looking for good hefty rocks.
