I agree that it likely =would= drive you batty. I =have= read all four of the books, and Bella's whining through the first three books did irritate me a LOT. There were enough other points of interest that got me through the final book, but the =whining= that girl does...! And until the fourth book, I could NOT understand why Jacob didn't just walk away, why Bella couldn't just walk away from Jacob. There is a reason, but you have to get at least halfway through book four to see it. I mean a reason other than keeping Bella alive. Considering her whining, I thought at times that her death might improve the stories. I certainly did get very, very annoyed by her inability to choose between the two. It came across as keeping two fish on the line, even when she just knew that she loved Edward best. Of course after book two, you knew if she did choose Jacob, she'd be dead shortly after. (shrugs)

Vampires that don't sleep, ones that give themselves away by glittering in the sunlight, diamond-hard skin, the red-eyed human-feeding/golden-eyed animal-feeding... there are some different takes on vampires that were interesting. And that the werewolves found in Forks were =brought on= by having =any= sort of vampires on hand was also fun, and a nod to an old Amazing Stories ep I've not seen in... gosh, I couldn't have been more than 15 considering where I lived then, so about 25-26 years ago. Meyers is likely old enough to have seen that. Only with that one, ALL humans became werewolves if the vamp stuck around long enough, and the vamp did it to "retire" as he'd gotten old and tired of moving from place to place. The CGI of the wolves was very nice in the movies, which was satisfying. I've only seen bits, not even all of one movie as yet. I've read the books; how could the movies compare?

The whining was mostly over how she was trying to sacrifice her own happiness for the sake of others' happiness, and how she just couldn't choose between Edward and Jacob... over and over... and over. (grits teeth again in memory of it)
