The Usual Christmas, Part 2
Because I want to know: What's the best thing you got for Christmas this year?

My answer is crazily threefold, because I am so overcome with happiness I cannot decide:

1) My Mom got me a Roomba. So I will now have a silly robot vaccuuming my living room, which is great because I hate vaccuuming and hate messy floors equally.

2) I got the complete Seasons 1 through 5 of Mythbusters. Considering that Adam and Jamie are my comfort watching, this makes me extremely thrilled.

3) This is the one where I can't say how much I like the present yet, but it fills me with warm fuzzies; Gini and I have battled for months over DJ Hero. "It's another stupid plastic toy," she said. "I don't want it cluttering the living room. I don't like the music. And I really hate the gameplay. And I don't want more clutter in our living room!" So though I wanted it, I had resigned myself to not having it.

I felt that box in my lap. I was hoping. And sure enough, even though Gini personally hates it, she got it for me for Christmas because she knew it would make me happy. And that's really filling me with a sense of love right now.

This is a very good Christmas, though. My Dad got me a box full of awesome, too, and Eric and Kat got me a guitar shirt that you can play with your hands. We don't have batteries for that right now, but I'm not going to fret it.

Merry, merry Christmas! So what made you happiest under the tree this holidays?

Rome Girl got me DJ Hero as well - even though she has the same objections to it that Gini does.

It's really, really fun to play - though I'm glad you can't fail out of songs because there are a lot of doing at the one and two star levels. Though I have two four stars and five three stars, so I'm not that awful for a newbie.

I saw that. Made me happy from here. But I have yet to play it! (This afternoon, but we started with Lego Rock Band.)

Though the flute one of his best friends' husband sent me floored me too.
It's been an amazing birthday/Yule/Christmas month for me, for sure! :)

Grá sent me juggling balls! And this game which I had as a kid under the name "hens and chicks" and absolutely loved.

Mostly I'm really squishy because I mentioned this game once in passing, and he not only remembered the conversation, but actually tracked it down and got it for me :-).

My parents like to get me "Hint" gifts.

This year's hint gift? A 1 TB External Hard Drive.

I could, if I wanted to, put the entirety of the hard drive of the computer I'm typing on onto it. And have only 1/10th of it filled.

This one will be used extensively.

Make sure it doesn't become your only copy of anything, or your only organised copy of anything. External drives have a nasty habit of dying.

Spanish chorizo.

Sausage jokes aside, my husband hunted down some real Spanish chorizo which I have been craving forever. In Chicago we can find lots of Mexican chorizo but it's not the same thing. Growing up in Spain some of my fondest memories revolve around the delicious food, especially the spicy chorizo sandwiches my great aunt used to make me.

So the gift is twofold in that it will be savory and delicious...but it will also take me on a wonderful trip down memory lane.

Teddy getting Christmas.

A couple of days ago, he put on a santa hat in the store, and said "Sss...Ssssss".

So I asked him later questions like "Is Santa coming? Are you getting PRESENTS? For CHRISTMAS?" Trying to see if he makes a connection and can understand that Christmas is different. (Note, we never really did the Santa thing with the kids, and as Quakers, we don't do anything other than for the kids. But for him to understand any sort of external difference and us understanding THAT, is a big deal.)

So he got all smiley, and said "Truck truck bob bop (which either means Spongebob or Bob/bop is his catchall word that means everything) puh puh puh (p sounds for presents maybe)".

And then really not much, but he woke up to pee at 4:30 am and I escorted him because he would see the presents, and his eyes BUGGED OUT OF MY HEAD and I said "Did SANTA bring you PRESENTS?" and the kid jumped up and down and I swear he was VIBRATING. He was SHAKING with excitment.

Tried to get him to go back to bed, had Dan keep watch, but we both eventually fell asleep, and he snuck back downstairs and opened a bunch of presents.

I haven't gotten my last gift yet (it hasn't arrived, though it shipped out on Monday, and C hasn't told me what it is), but actually the gift that made me happiest is something that my best friend got for his son: City of Heroes game time, so the three of us can play together. *wiggles in glee* I adore my BFF's kid, he's a doll, and now we can all get together and play and it will be so much fun.

Also, I GROANED at your PUN. :P "Fret it." *shakes head at you*

Kindle Kindle Kindle.

Actually, that is the easy answer.

And it is predominantly true. I mean, I want to make out with the thing.

But I also got a card and a $10 B&N gift card totally out of the blue from a coworker that I really like. And that was such a nice surprise that it made me feel totally holiday-ish and just NICE. Which is an underappreciated feeling, I think.

purpura got me a magnet that says, "Life is Good." That made me happy.

But everything everyone got for everyone made me happy this year. I liked that bluewindkitsune got my kids the Nintendo DSes they've been pining for. I liked that seorgia's face lit up when she saw the cake turntable we all went in on. I liked that 11th_letter got gryphon_m the 12-inch Bowie knife he's been lusting after. I liked that everyone got me classic movies -- and "Innerspace" too.

And I especially like that ioldanach got purpura the complete DVD collection of "Blackadder." Merry Christmas to us all.

I don't really get Christmas presents that "thrill" me anymore.
We gave each other a puppy a couple of weeks ago - that's pretty much it.

About to head out to one of the obligatory "extended family" togetherness events... They stopped asking years ago what I wanted. Now I pretty much get gift certificates from them.

So the "thrill" gifts for me were those I gave this year. Kidlet got the Nintendo DSi she so desperately wanted AND the iPod Touch from Santa. She was thrilled! :)
And I got the husband a small token - an original 'lobby card' from the 1968 release of "2001: A Space Odessey".

Me? I'm pretty much just happy with having my family - my 1 husband, 1 child, 1 cat, 1 dog and 1 puppy family - here with me. It will always be my best present.

I've always wanted a roomba.. It's like a pet - with opposite affects. :)

I just saw a video of three kittens catching a ride on Roomba as it did its thing. My cat would have probably hissed at it and fled.

I got a hat, scarf, mittens and fingerless gloves that my SO crocheted for me. Even better were the hats she crocheted for the cats and the pomeranian; to see them wearing those made my day.

I mostly try to excuse myself from gift giving and recieving, but I can't do it totally.

For sheer selfish greed the best gift I got was a moderately expensive cigar sampler from my girlfriend's mom.

But the most heartwarming and satisfying gift that I got was a single can of a beer I don't like. And I mean it. http://maekern.livejournal.com/403767.html if you care.

Happy Christmas!

I got it early about a week and a half ago, but Dragon Age: Origins remains my most entertaining gift. Technically the best is the plane tickets to see my good friend get married in Portland, OR in January, except I feel like I should've been able to afford those and not have to ask for them as gifts. I'm still young enough to be mad about "wasting" presents on practical stuff, I guess. XP

I also got a box of cereal from a coworker. It sounds dumb, but it's sort of an inside joke, and since I didn't expect anything from anyone at work, it was a nice surprise.

LOL, our boss got all of us boxes of cereal with a milk chug rather than the McDonald's gift cards she'd originally thought of, because cereal is better for us! Been a raisin bran crunch Xmas!

lets see... knowing i am loved and wanted this christmas is wonderful, because i havent always had that. Himself bought me an entire set of ruby jewelry, earrings, necklace, tennis bracelet. we'll open gifts at mama's on sunday when my son gets here. having the boy here is one of the best things that sprawls under my tree.

oh and Himself bought me a bottle of shalimar perfume. very expensive, something i never have had (although i've used it when it belonged to someone else at their urging). he's been looking for it for a year and a half now. :)

Season 1 of Chuck on DVD.

Not that I haven't seen every single episode already, as well as the special features on YouTube, but this is the kind of thing I'm going to make my kids sit down and watch, like my parents did with Get Smart and The Princess Bride, so having it is the coolest thing ever. :D

Squee! I got a roomba too! We're still debating names. Options so far:

- Geordie (it totally has a visor)
- Sauron (this would require putting an eye on the top. But it does devour everything)
- Rosie (but I want my flying car)

What are you going to name yours?

Think my favorite gift this year was the Disturbing Geek Trifecta from my boyfriend's parents: action figures of the Joker, Rorschach (From Watchmen), and Sylar (From Heroes). All homicidal sociopaths. And I squealed over all of them.

That or the new Jak and Daxter game.
