Some Linques, Of Various Mixed Emotional Valences This tower of geekitude has at least a hundred rooms, and each of them seems to reference some sort of nerdy thing. I wish I could get all of them, even though there are some repeats (HAL shows up at least twice). But it's amazing work.
If you are a survivor of rape or sexual abuse, Shadesong is holding a healing ritual. It is, as she says, "An attempt to exchange shared pain for peace. A way of reaching out across the dark and sharing love." And if you want, she can light a candle for you to hold you in her heart.
Zombie Squad is "an elite zombie suppression task force ready to defend your neighborhood from the shambling hordes of the walking dead...When the zombie removal business is slow we focus our efforts towards educating ourselves and our community about the importance of disaster preparation. To satisfy this goal, we host disaster relief charity fundraisers, disaster preparation seminars, and volunteer our time towards emergency response agencies." Incredibly cool. I got a handout at Penguicon, and it was amazingly useful. (I do have an emergency preparation kit.)

Psst: I only did it once before, and that was five years ago, so is not annual.
But! Thank you so much for signal-boosting. *hugs* It is greatly appreciated.

So noted. And I was a little wondering how to reference it without sounding crass, but I felt I needed to.
Doesn't sound crass a bit.
I struggled with my wording. Because I don't want this to sound like a fluffybunny thing or a look-how-strong-I-am thing. Last time... it was incredibly powerful, and many people said it helped.
This time - I'm scouting for a bigger location and assistants! The 236 candles I lit last time took up my whole living room. That was five years ago. Readership has increased a hell of a lot since then...
(EDIT: Also, is for survivors of rape and/or sexual assault, not just rape. And I'm done editing now. *hides*)

So noted, and changed.
Please do not set your house on fire.
Oh, we're thinking outdoors, trust me.
Please do not set Boston on fire.
Was they Guybrush Threepwood from Monkey Island on one of the levels? Damn, I loved those games.
Yep. And Leisure Suit Larry was there too. What truly dropped my jaw was the Endless, though.
Isn't "walk briskly in the other direction" the only tool you need to survive zombies?
The "POW!!" was very very very wrong.
But hilarious.
I thought so, too. I guess I should go and stand in the corner.
James has the notion he kind of wants to have a house built someday. In discussing the why and how of this we agreed it should have zombie/siege defenses. Cause, well, if you're building your own house, won't you feel silly if you don't? Not like murder holes or anything extreme. More like a sturdy gate, heavy shutters on the lower windows, a walk in pantry.
You're really trying to get me to upgrade my tower dream, aren't you?

Oh, yeah!! I immediately thought of the tower dream when I saw that.
We have SO many people now that I want to share the tower with that it would be approaching that height!
Hey, if it were going to be that extravagant, we could probably fund it by offering tours through it :D
Oh hey! I worked on that tower.
The COMPLETED version is at goontower.com. It is HUGE.
love to compare disaster prep kits sometime. probably best done by email, otherwise everyone else would be bored to tears.
That's one helluva tower! Very funny to look at though. I think I recognized about half the references on there, maybe less than that. There were some that I realized, "Hey! I know what that is... now what's the name of it?" lol
I'm glad you got use out of the ZS handouts. I made 30 each of the ZS info and Bug Out Bag handouts for the panel and I was worried I was going to get stuck with a bunch. I couldn't believe how popular they were or how crowded the panel was! It was a blast as well.
Come by the ZS forums some time. Lots of good info and good people.
The goon tower was badass, even if I only recognized, like, a twentieth of what was there. But they had the Dopefish from Commander Keen! Sweeeeeet. :-D
My god. That tower is amazing. I felt proud of myself that I actually recognized some of it...including the Fight Club one! w00t! |
