Tales From The House In La Casa McJuddMetz, Gini is Scheduling. I'm Budget. That's because I can remember to pay the bills, and keep track of our general funding, but I am useless when it comes to remembering when anything is. Every night, I shout to my wife: "WHAT ARE WE DOING TONIGHT?" And she tells me.
As proof that I am terrible at scheduling, this year I vowed to remember Mother's Day. So I bought the card, sent the present, and called up my Mom yesterday to shout, "HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!"
"That's nice," she said. "But it's not until next weekend."
"Oh."
"Sweet of you, though. This is kind of like the time you sent me flowers a month after my birthday."
"But I continued to send you flowers a month after your birthday for the next two years," I responded. "I almost made it a tradition, except then I got confused and sent them a month early."
"Which happened to be my actual birthday."
"Well, sometimes things work out," I said.
I thought that was embarrassing enough. But then I got the call from my daughter Erin: "Why the hell did you remind me to call Mom this Sunday? That wasn't Mother's Day!"
"Well," said I. "Funny story...."

At least there is symmetry. :-)
My mother evidently passed down a gene to me that makes us buy presents for people early (no matter the occasion) and put them "in a safe spot so we can find them later". Then, when the time comes, we can't find (or remember we bought) the gift, so ;ater is generally six months to a year after said occasion, when we find then again...so you never know when you'll get a present from either of us!
It'd be worse if you were in the UK, as Mothers' Day here was in March!
I am the same way. x.x I can't remember my best friend's birthday, and she's been my best friend for eight years now. I know the general area, but not the actual date (and sometimes I think it's July instead of June). Of course, I barely remember my mother and oldest brother's birthdays, and they are in the same month as mine. I just remember one is the 5th or 6th, and the other is the 15th or 16th, and I am the 29th. Luckily no one in my family cares much if presents are late or early, as long as the event is acknowledged. And my mother tends to remind me. I frequently forget my dad and other brother's birthdays, because they're in the spring (one in Feb and one in April, I think) and thus totally removed from mine.
I hope I get to marry someone who has that kind of memory, because I dunno how I can otherwise survive. XD I am okay at budgeting (not great, but able), but scheduling is just gone on me. If I don't put an event in my phone, it doesn't happen (I am just waiting for the day I can get a real PDA).

My husband made a list of everybody's 'special days' by month, and I had him make a copy for me. I went through the calendar and marked each one. But I forget to look at the calendar!!
Same here. XD My voice teacher is always going "buy a planner, buy a planner" and I go "but I won't use it or look at it ever!" I put the events I can't forget in my phone because an actual alarm goes off to remind me, otherwise I will always forget.
I wished my whole friends' list Happy Easter-and they all replied, "Today is Palm Sunday!"
What can I say? I'm a Buddhist.

You seem cool, though I must admit I missed all the drama a couple weeks ago. I'll be friending you.
Mother's Day has no business being next weekend. It's the beginning of May. That's when it's safe to put plants outside. Doesn't matter what the calendar says; Mother's Day is the first weekend. I have decreed it. Floating holidays screw everything up, except what they fix very well.

Nonono Mothering Sunday is the third Sunday in Lent; and was in March this year.
Who said anything about Mothering Sunday? Two separate holidays. I like celebrating the one in May, though; I was raised that Mother's Day weekend opens flower season. What would I get my mother if I couldn't get her garden tools?
I have MISSED you Sir! Thank you for the smile tonight.
I've missed you, too, sweetie! Glad to see you back and posting.
I was wondering about you a few weeks ago, in fact.
I love the random shouting in this entry.

interesting - in my house, i'm scheduling AND budget. he just makes the money and i'm accountable to him for the final numbers. :)
This is totally me. My mother's birthday is August... sometime. My dad's is September... sometime. All I know is that they are close enough together to have the same zodiac sign.
