Good Frickin' Lord!
So we return from a rather exhausting weekend at [info]rbradakis and [info]sheryl67's house (we stayed up too late playing Rock Band, overslept, and missed the Penguicon meeting we were supposed to go to on Saturday - whoops), only to discover this:

The View From The Street

The View From The Doorstep

See that little wiggly line in the second photo on the left-hand side, about halfway up? Yeah? That's our ChristMoose. For the record:

My Sexy Wife!

Up to the friggin' antlers, man. Now that's snow. And I'm tired from all the playing and slumber party-style talks. Eeps. Fortunately, my wife knows a guy who snowplows driveways, but a six-foot high drift impresses even former Alaskan natives.

I think this winter has officially become the crazy uncle that refuses to leave way after he has overstayed his welcome.

Jeez... last winter it didn't snow up here until after January and I shoveled the driveway 3 times! This year, yeah, snowblower's are only a couple hundred dollars haha!

Good luck. We just had gajillion inches of rain here. But between the two you know what I'm choosing.

Living in SE Texas, I have never seen snow like that. That is just crazy.

About 12 years ago, in November, some friends of mine and I drove to Dallas for a Magic Pro Tour. The driver had a small truck, and a couple of us rode in the back of the truck up there. We stayed in the hotel all weekend, and by Sunday evening when it was time to leave, there was a foot of snow on the ground. I ended up taking a bus, as there was NO way I was going to be in the back of the truck. :)

Here's hoping you get your driveway plowed soon.

I now feel obligated to share my OMGSNOW stories:
The first one happened when I was in 7th grade. We had three feet of snow dumped on us in the space of about 36 hours, and then, a few days later, we got ANOTHER two feet. Yep, the drifts were *well* over my head. It actually got so bad that my dad's snowblower couldn't blow over the tops of the drifts. The entire backyard was one giant mound of snow. The grass still hasn't entirely recovered!

And this is from last winter, up in Q'bury, NY:

That's my car. The entire front end was *completely* buried. I had to dig it out so that the engine could start!

I should mention that the trash can, with the lid open like that, is about as tall as I am.

And that one's fairly self explanatory.

I should also mention that I did absolutely *no* shoveling during either of those occasions. Well, I may have shoveled stairs or something, but I certainly didn't do the bulk of the work. I can has Serious Back Issues that flare up from both repetitive motion and lifting things up. Snowblowers = good for Kat.

I did make delicious hot chocolate (with real chocolate!) and soup and grilled cheese for the shovelers, though.

My back still remembers that one.

Also, she made omelets. I don't remember soup or grilled cheese.

You should have stayed here. *g*

And Good Lord, look at that drift against the garage! I'll bet it would be well over my head.

The Rock Band game is sitting cold and lonely without the other members of our band. :(

The drift in front of the garage reminds of one that size back in the 60's. The problem was that it was covered by a thick (1 to 2") sheet of ice making shoveling nearing impossible. A nearby farmer brought over his bulldozer - which actually road up *on top* of the 6' high drift.

It supported the bulldozer for several seconds before it collapsed!

Then there is the blizzard of '77 (Western NY) - the year we had over 200" of snow and drifts as tall as 3-story houses - but that's another tale..

No, it stays because every house on our block looks the same so we keep it up until lawn-mowing time and only light it when people are coming over.

A couple days ago, my parents' deck collapsed from all the snow. The insurance company sent men out with chainsaws to take down the overhanging roof thing that had been over it so it wouldn't fall down and hurt someone. Good times.

I know! We've got a FOOT here, which is insane for stupid SW Ohio. They close everything if there's more than two inches on the ground, so everyone is flipping out.

You might as well be in Siberia, as far as my brain can figure. It's been in the upper 50's to low 70's the last few weeks, but felt like 80 with the sun shining directly on you this weekend.

I saw almost an inch of snow a few months ago, but haven't seen more than two inches in about five years. And that's about perfect.

Posts like this remind that although I frequently miss the Matanuska Valley, I do not miss the winters. This weekend I sat in my backyard after dark in a tank top to drink the whiskey and smoke the cigar.
