It Is Delightful To Discover... ...that though it's probably not strep, a viral flu can knock you just as thoroughly off your ass as strep itself. A rusty trap for a throat, whole-body aches, and sleepiness severe enough that I had to step out on my Godson Andy's birthday early. And I can't see my ninety-year-old Gramma for fear of infecting her.
Greeat.
Though my favorite comment comes from sheryl67, who was checking to see whether I was hydrating myself properly with Diet Pepsi. YES I AM, DAMMIT.
Anyway, I'm trying to get through the day. Slept for two and a half hours already. Feeling about as bad as I've felt physically since I had my teeth out. Ick.

| | Well, if it is strep, maybe it will trigger some scarlet fever, and then you can call the doctor's office back and say, "I told you so." I hope you feel better soon. For some reason, half a dozen people I know are getting sick! ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/71523962/10772915) | | From: | sheryl67 |

Thank you!!! Ahem. You are not properly hydrating yourself if you're drinking Diet Pepsi. If my wife says it, it's true. Just give in now, man. Drink some water or...
Oh, oh, you're in for it now.

Good luck!!! Try as I might, no matter of persuasion has gotten him to drink water. ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/71523962/10772915) | | From: | sheryl67 |

Maybe if we all gang up on him. We'll organize a super secret Penguicon committee, by then he'll forget about it. ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/82771973/446406) | | From: | zoethe |

I fear you underestimate the power of the Ferrett. Some kind of non-water isotonic beverage might be an adequate compromise. Is there such a thing as diet gatorade? Juice would be better than soda. The critical thing is just to be taking water in a form that does not include so much junk that getting rid of the waste products requires more water than you get from the drink itself. ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/82771973/446406) | | From: | zoethe |

He is a slave to Diet Pepsi. The only other beverage he drinks is milk, which is not such a good thing with a sore throat. ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/82771973/446406) | | From: | zoethe |

He will not debate you on that point. Merely point out that you are wrong.
Call it "pop" however, and it's war. ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/76820602/2245536) | | From: | wyrrlen |

You know, a certain quarter portion of the United States - I'd venture to say the correct quarter - knows that the only dark liquid soft drink product manufactured is Coke. In fact, much like Taco Bell restaurants from the movie Demolition Man, all soft drinks are Coke. ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/82771973/446406) | | From: | zoethe |

And he's more tolerant of that than of "pop." Funnily enough, in the European release of Demo Man, All Restaurants Are Pizza Hut. They actually reshot the scene to do it, too. ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/76820602/2245536) | | From: | wyrrlen |

Wow, very interesting. That wasn't too much of a stretch since Taco Bell and Pizza Hut are owned by the same restaurant conglomerate, but I just can't imagine seeing the movie that way after the heavy amount of marketing by Taco Bell that surrounded the release of the movie. Whereas in Europe, Taco Bell doesn't exist, period. Not a single restaurant that I've ever seen, even today, let alone back when. Pizza Hut, otoh, has a fairly extensive presence throughout the continent. A quick google confirms nada European Taco Bell action. Fuckin' A. I haven't been this tired since I don't know when. Sleeping 16 hours a day, constant Lemmy-voice. This sucks, man. Hope you get better soon. Did ya notice my post? Have you had a strep test?
I hope you feel better soon, man. It took me a month to recover from a Norovirus and it was one nasty bug. When my doctor told me it was being passed around like a cold or flu bug I found myself troubled at the thought. And dehydration was my worst foe. ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/75100047/13627403) | | From: | mckeekee |

| | Got Tamiflu? | (Link) |
|
I was sick Friday through Monday with the flu. I started a Rx of Tamiflu on Sunday. If I had known it was going to be so effective, I would have had hubby fill the script sooner. I still sound froggy when I talk, but feel 10 times better. And no, I don't work for a pharmaceutical company. I was sicker than I had been in years and running a high fever with all the other symptoms you described. Or you could try my grandmother's hot toddy recipe...oh wait she forgot it and just drinks the whiskey, but that will work too. There's something going around... tormentedartist was down for the count with it last week, and I was sick with it the week prior. If I weren't so rational (and didn't get better with relative ease) I'd be wondering if the events of The Stand were really fiction. ;) However, *dons nurse's hat* Diet Pepsi isn't really the best for the purposes of hydration. Your best bet is juice, tea, or just plain water. *doffs nurse's hat* Sleep and alternating doses of Robitussin DM and NyQuil every four hours was what pulled me through. Hope you feel better soon. ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/25810583/6490) | | From: | nuala |

Tis the season. Feel better soon. *hugs* And uh, oh yeah. Drink more water/OJ/etc. Unless you're drinking that vitamin-enhanced diet Pepsi. In which case, ya know, drink more water/OJ/etc in addition to... :D ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/72335794/14887624) | | From: | gafizal |

is feeling like my mind is slow, at least you have some wits left :) One thing I was told was that if it's all over then it is more likely to be a virus. Strep tends to cause some all over discomfort but much more concentrated in the throat area. ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/76820602/2245536) | | From: | wyrrlen |

Well, I guess that could be a manner of explanation....
I'm sure I wouldd be really sick if I was drinking Diet Pepsi, too. If by 'flu' you mean an actual influenza strain, they can be lethal. The Spanish Flu epeidemic of 1918 was a major disaster, only overshadowed by WWI itself. |
