Aw, Man
Dear Harrison Ford:

William Shatner understands his new lot in life. So does Clint Eastwood. Why can't you transition?

All I can think of in the second photo down is, "Why is Grampa dressed in an Indiana Jones suit? He - oh, God." (EDIT: The original photos are down, but a captioned copy can be found here.)

Dude, I love you. But it's time to change. You're too old to be doing movies like Firewall completely straight. Bend a little. We still love you.

Sincerely,
T.F.

(Tell me I'm full of it)

I think he looks hot.

He's 65, at that age Mr. Kibbles is expected to still be hanging off the sides of buildings. There are coworkers of his doing that as I type this. My FIL runs marathons, rock climbs and just got his 5th degree (a PhD, this time). And before anyone says well that's not Indiana Jones, remember, even earlier on, could everyone his age (age of first movie) hack that shit? Ha. Not with the human puddings we have on this planet.

America is graying but not necessarily slowing down.

Sure, in movie make up and with the proper lighting he looks good for his age. Ever seen the guy in person? not so pretty.

Also, I think it's not that he doesn't handle his age well, it's that he just isn't indiana jones aged any more. He kind of looks silly and unless there are some great gags in the movie about him throwing his back out, I'm not sure I'll buy it. Especially not in the time period.

Yep. Seen pictures, still looks good to me.

I'm fine with it. He's not dead, I can see people that age being active, don't see a problem.

Maybe if I were younger I'd feel that way.

Good lord, he's 65?! I have to agree, he's looking good, could have passed for 50-ish, hardly "elderly."

While I love William Shatner's current persona, and I do find the forced, ersatz youthfulness of *some* older people to be tiring, I agree with you here.

I'm not a huge fan of Shatner, don't know why. And I know what you mean about forced youthfulness, it bugs me sometimes, can't think of one now.

But Harrison Ford gives off the aura of an active man (could be because he is). Ok, he crashed a helicopter in 99 but at least he was piloting it!

P.S. I bet Calista Flockhart keeps him young. :P

I had a dream of an alternate universe where Mark Hamill was "The Guy" and Harrison Ford ended up doing cons and bit parts for the rest of his life...it was oddly satisfying.

Again - right with you on this one... She doesn't do it for me, he does.
I just realized that what I said might be misconstrued as saying I wanted to look like her - but she's not my cup of tea. Anorexic and waiflike doesn't turn my crank at all.

harrison ford is fine as the elder indiana jones, this movie will be great.

But . . . harrison ford as computar haxor in firewall is absolutely unbelievable. I mean, someone his age, his training was IBM's and punch cards, now sure some of the old folks stayed on top of it, going to training, and stuff, but there's no evidence in the movie and it seems quite clear that technology perplexes harrison ford, as an actor and a human being. he's the guy that has trouble figuring out why his clock is blinking 12:00.

too old, miscast, poorly acted, completely unbelievable. Why did he take that role? How broke is he?

An older indiana jones is totally believable. You know your older uncles and aunts, they wear the same clothes they wore when they were in high school . . back in 1959. Grandpa Indiana Jones would totally still be wearing that floppy hat. Do you imagine him in a tree piece suit? Grandpa pants pulled up to his nipple and suspenders?

Why did he do firewall . . . that's the real question.

I was about to make the same comment about senior Indiana Jones. Folks I know in the 65-90 range tend to wear what they wore all along. Maybe not back in high school, but certainly whatever they found comfortable/functional as younger adults. Shit, I'm almost 50 and wear the same style I settled on in my early 20s.

Bah don't get me started on Shatner. He's constantly been whinging they asked Nimoy to be in the film and not him. When he's not carrying on about it, he's writing his version of how Kirk and Spock met....

When I first heard that Lucas and Spielberg were getting together to do Indy IV, I thought no good can come of this. The more I hear about the film, the more strongly I feel that no good can come of this.

Indy IV has the potential of making Indy II seem like Citizen Freakin' Kane.

I think he would have looked a little better in the pictures if he was wearing clothes that actually fit him.

Oh, quit fussing. He's perfect for the part. Didn't you know that the actual title of the next Indy flick is "Indiana Jones and the Rolling Rebellion," in which Indy has inherited Roosevelt's second best wheelchair, and Salah pushes him around in it on the trail of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg?

Since none of the other Indy movies was played completely (or even remotely) straight, I think we can safely assume that the film will not take itself or Harrison's physical capabilities too seriously. Hell, Indy spent most of the first three movies getting beaten down, knocked out, tied up, and generally surviving (much less prevailing) only because of a bit of cleverness and a bundle of determination. I'm sure there will be a stunt or twelve in #4, but tongue will remain firmly in cheek.

My problem with that second picture isn't so much his age as much as it's the fact that he has that angry scowl on his face but his outfit's still in pristine condition. Indy should never really get mad until he at least has some prominent sweat stains on his shirt, even if it is still in mostly one piece.

Really the outfit looks way too new in all those pictures, except maybe the last one. I really hope those were just publicity stills and the clothes he wears in the movie will be more "broken in."
